Bali Divesites
Gili Selang
|
Gili Selang is another strong current dive site off the east coast of Bali that is a suitable dive for experienced divers only.
This small island is also exposed to cooler water from the deep water Lombok Strait and is visited by large pelagics including occasional hammerhead sharks. It can be reached by daytrip dive boat from Amed or by liveaboard. Visibility is often 25m or more.
The outer east side of the Gili Selang is the side of the island exposed to the strong currents and it is also the deep side that drops below 40m. Schools of trevally, tuna and barracuda can be seen as well as the odd grey reef shark and white tip reef shark.
The south end of the island offers some protection from the currents as does the north section which has a nice volcanic black sand slope with patches of coral including leather corals, brain corals and black coral bushes. There are also gorgonian sea fans and sponges that play host to a myriad of fish life.
Three Fingers are three small rocks about 500 metres or so further south of Gili Selang. They can only be dived when currents are less severe. They are good macro dive sites where divers can find seahorses and ornate ghost pipefish among others.
Waterloo is another little visited dive site even further south with healthy coral coverage and well worth exploring.
