Banda Sea

The Banda Sea is one of the newest dive destinations on the world dive map and is mainly dived by high end Indonesia dive liveaboards.

What draws divers to the Banda Islands is the bio-diversity of the marine life. Many Indonesian dive destinations are very rich in marine life but much of that marine life is very small. For divers less interested in macro critters and more interested in big fish, the Banda Sea should fit the bill.

The remoteness of the area means that it has suffered much less from overfishing and other human related environmental pressures so it is still common to see large schools of pelagics like dog tooth tuna and trevally plus squadrons of mobula rays.

Banda also has it's fair share of smaller reef life and coral reefs are healthy and beautiful, on a par with Raja Ampat.

Diving conditions are excellent in season with clear water and warm temperatures. Currents are mild at most dive sites although there are some strong current sites. Most divers visiting the area are relatively experienced.

It's best to dive around March and April or September to December when the sea is calmest and this is when the liveaboard operators plan their itineraries. It is very likely that during your dive cruise you will not see another dive boat and you will have the reefs to yourself, another joy of diving this area.
