The sloping reef off the north east coast at Amet is a shallow dive with good hard coral coverage, coloured with crinoids, sea whips and christmas tree worms. Reef fish are abuntant here including many juveniles. Blue spotted stingrays can be found in the sand, so can patches of garden eels. Also look out for flounder, mantis shrimps, stick pipefish and ribbon eels. White tip reef sharks can often be seen out in deeper water.
North of Amet jetty is a deep wall dive down to 45 metres with some interesting caverns to explore. Gorgonian fans and barrel sponges are surrounded by smaller reef fish such as anthias and damsels. Lionfish and bearded scorpionfish are abundant. Moray eels including giant and honeycomb moray can be found poking from coral crevices.
Marble rays can be found in deeper water as can reef sharks. On the top of the reef hard corals proliferate, especially staghorn coral. Anemones are home to anemone fish who doggedly defend their hosts. This is a great dive site for finding smaller critters and nudibranch but also keep and eye out away from the wall for trevally and rainbow runners. |
